Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

ā€œThere's this level of irony that we are trapped in,ā€ noted Cappa. ā€œIt feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.ā€

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
