Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was ā€œupbeatā€ during their latest talk.

ā€œWhat reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,ā€ Glenn stated on Wednesday. ā€œHis family, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.ā€

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

ā€œStill unsure,ā€ Glenn remarked. ā€œYet I must mention, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.ā€

New York police issued video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking ā€œa tonā€ since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a newborn.

ā€œMy initial concern, he just had a kid,ā€ Glenn remarked. ā€œAnd I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
ā€œThere is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.ā€

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.

ā€œHe’s been a part of what we’re doing,ā€ Glenn stated. ā€œI mean, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.ā€

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
