Lando Norris Wins Debut Formula One Drivers' Crown in Abu Dhabi Despite Verstappen's Grand Prix Win.
In a display of brave racing, Lando Norris has clinched his first F1 world title by achieving a podium finish at the Yas Marina race. A podium was sufficient for the British driver, even though his rival Max Verstappen finished first and his teammate at McLaren Oscar Piastri came home in second.

Verstappen was also brilliant to force the fight to the wire. The Dutchman did everything possible in Abu Dhabi with the win, but having come back from a significant deficit in August, he fell just short of having the points to overhaul Norris, finishing just two points behind.
Closing it Out with Ruthless Execution
He secured his success with clinical precision to win the crown that had been within reach but eluded him as McLaren struggled at the last two races. These included a double disqualification in Las Vegas and then an questionable strategy call in Qatar.

Diverging Fates
As Norris was crowned the first British driver to take the title since Lewis Hamilton in 2020, the contrast in fortunes between the two was pronounced. As the young guns battled over the title, Hamilton, the grand champion, could only finish eighth place in Abu Dhabi, a dismal conclusion to a dismal season with Ferrari.
Making his debut with the Scuderia had been greeted with enthusiasm but produced what was comfortably his most challenging year ever, ending up sixth in the championship and failing to secure a top-three finish. He has looked jaded in the closing races and will aim to reset over the off-season.
