Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:

“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Issues and Player Response

The manager lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with outcomes so bad.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
